Change the default resolution of a Virtualbox VM

This post is going to detail 2 methods to change the default resolution of a Virtualbox VM.

Firstly ensure your VM is shutdown.  The commands are assuming Ubuntu but just add .exe if you are running Virtualbox on windows.

The first method is quite restrictive and only allows a limited number of resolutions.

vboxmanage setextradata "<VM name>" VBoxInternal2/EfiGopMode {N}

where N -> Resolution
0 -> 640 x 480
1 -> 800 x 600
2 -> 1024 x 768
3 -> 1280 x 1024
4 -> 1440 x 900
5 -> 1920 x 1200

Secondly you can set the resolution to your own requirment, in my case I have used 1920×1080 but you can change this to be specific to your requirements.

vboxmanage setextradata "<VM name>" "VBoxInternal2/EfiGraphicsResolution" "1920x1080"

Hope this helps, please share or comment if you found it useful!
